Artist Profile
As a photographer, I love capturing the natural moments of life unfolding and bringing out the natural beauty I see in each person. I am honored by the trust my clients place in me to memorialize what may be the most important events of their lives. So I take this responsibility very much to heart, and bring to bear all of the technical skill and experience I have acquired over the years to recognize, compose and develop images that will truly fulfill the hopes and dreams of my clients.
It helps that my own natural interest in and comfort with people tends to put my clients at ease, which makes it easy to capture natural images of them, without forced posing. I find that my own smile and easy laugh help even the stiffest people to relax, making possible some truly spectacular images.
My interest in photography started when I was just 8 years old and was taken under the wing of Neil White, a friend of the family and professor of photography at San Francisco State. He taught me how to see life through the eyes of a camera, as well as teaching me ways that I could technically achieve the effects I wanted. I pursued my formal career in Photography/Fine Arts at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where I earned my B.A.. I began working professionally while still living in Santa Cruz, then established an independent studio when I moved to San Francisco in 2003. I've been working as a full time professional photographer ever since, and I absolutely love it. For me, there is nothing more fulfilling than working with my clients to create images of lasting beauty and meaning for their lives.
I have been elected to the Board of Directors for the Professional Photographers of the Greater Bay Area for the 2008 term, an organization that has also selected me to teach multiple "4 Nights" classes for them and presented me with an award for Photograph of the Month as well as many other print and album awards. I have received numerous awards and recognition for my images and albums, including published work such as my photograph of the World Trade Center featured on the cover of the Good Times Santa Cruz just after 9/11.
Photography is a very complicated and ever-changing medium. Especially with the dawn of digital technology, there are more and more people representing themselves as photographers, but I'm afraid that fewer and fewer have a true understanding of how to realize the full power of this medium. I maintain my commitment to keeping up with changing photographic technologies in part by regularly attending professional workshops and
through my active memberships in the Professional Photographers of America
(PPA), Professional Photographers
of the Greater Bay Area (PPGBA),
the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP)
and Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI).
